Cecilia Collins

I am a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Institute for Biomedical and Neural Engineering, Reykjavík University.

My interests in osteoarchaeology and specifically respiratory disease have led me to examine the social and environmental conditions, and constraints, which affect disease occurrence and the human experience.

During my PhD studies of mediaeval human remains from Iceland, I found high numbers of related cases of tuberculosis, sinusitis and middle ear disease, and cases of probable hearing loss.

I was recently awarded a 3 year postdoctoral grant by Rannís, the Icelandic Centre for Research, for the project Entangled Strands, which aims to advance lab-based 3D and microscopic methods in archaeological science in Iceland by studying bone mass density and other palaeopathological data.

I have worked in archaeology and research institutions in the UK, Switzerland and Hong Kong, and recently earned a teaching qualification.
