Two tobacco-related chapters in the new edited volume 'Tobacco Through Time'
Today, our Tobacco, Health and History Project saw the publication of an edited volume focussing on interdisciplinary perspectives on the historical consumption of tobacco! This is the culmination of work by the project to bring together voices from around the world to discuss historical tobacco-use. I am a co-author on two chapters:
Inskip, S. A., & Davies-Barrett, A. M. (2026). Investigating the past impact of tobacco on health in England and the Netherlands (1600-1900). In S. A. Inskip & J. Hughes (Eds), Tobacco Through Time: Interdisciplinary Perspectives (pp. 29–48). Bloomsbury Academic.
Inskip, S. A., Davies-Barrett, A. M., Badillo-Sanchez, D., & Serrano Ruber, M. (2026). Not all smokes are the same: Exploring the variability of tobacco and its significance in early modern and modern England (1560-1890). In S. A. Inskip & J. Hughes (Eds), Tobacco Through Time: Interdisciplinary Perspectives (pp. 81–98). Bloomsbury Academic.
Both chapters explore the usage and social perceptions of tobacco consumption in post-medieval Europe, incorporating lots of strands of interesting research we have undertaken as part of the project. The book is available Open Access and a link will be made available on the Bloomsbury website soon!
